Habit #5: You Can Sleep When You’re Dead (which will happen a lot faster if you don’t get enough sleep while you’re alive).
In the twenty-fifth installment of our "Member Spotlight", we're featuring a very special member that just graduated from OSU with a degree in Industrial Engineering. But rather than leave Corvallis right away, he chose to lengthen his stay in order to spend more time at the SHOP and more time with his SHOP friends. If that doesn't sum up the kind of guy that Mohammad is, let me also add that he supports everyone in classes, he loves Arnold Schwarzenegger quotes, and he may or may not have a thing for Taylor Swift... what more could you ask for?!
First, give us a little background on yourself.I’m currently a senior studying Industrial Engineering at Oregon State University. I came to Corvallis all the way from Kuwait in 2015. Got 4 siblings and I’m the second oldest between them. I came to the States to explore an entirely new nation, meet different people, learn new perspectives and ideas, so far it’s been great! This is my final year here so I’m hoping to make the best out of it! (EDITOR'S NOTE: he graduated! I just may have been a little late with this post)What got you started and how long have you been at the SHOP?I’ve always been interested in exercising and living a healthier lifestyle, but we all know how hard it is to commit and maintain that commitment. I lost a close friend of mine in 2018 who was a CrossFit athlete. Used to accompany me in any exercises we did and always inspired me to try my hardest and live the best I could both mentally and physically. So after everything settled a little, I asked around town for a place to exercise, clear my mind, and improve my body. That is where I stumbled upon the SHOP and been there since May. Every time I walk through the SHOP’s door, I tell myself that I want to make my friend proud and just have a good workout surrounded by a great community.
With what movement(s) have you seen the most progress?My mobility sequence has been better, especially my Goblet Squats and KB Swings!What do you like to do outside the gym?I like to play Video Games, like A LOT OF VIDEO GAMES! Play Football (The World’s Version). When it’s not raining, I’d like to either bike or hike up Bald Hill! I’m also slowly trying to be a better skater when I got the time to practice!What movement(s) would you like to improve on in the next few months?Upper body strength, mainly any form of pullups since I struggle with those a lot even with the help of the bands! I also would hope to be able to improve on my jump rope skills! Gotta get them double-unders!Favorite place to eat in/near Corvallis?Chipotle! Chipotle! Chipotle! I’m pretty much a third of their yearly income!What advice would you give members just starting out at the SHOP?Try your best! Just go! Lock the part of your brain that will weigh you down! Know what your body's needs are and work to improve! Meet everyone in your session! No one knows what goes on in another person’s life so a smile or a fist bump could really make that person’s day!! Believe in yourself and maintain that consistency. You’ll be unstoppable! A champion! Just trust me!
